Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his initial championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
